Hot stones will relieve stress and leave you feeling refreshed.
Hot stones have been used for therapeutic purposes for more than 2000 years and have many benefits. Made from basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains its heat, these smooth flat stones are placed on to specific parts of the body and are normally heated to somewhere between 130 – 145 degrees. They are usually placed along the spine or on the stomach, chest, face, palms, feet or toes but some massage therapists also hold the stones whilst performing Swedish massage techniques such as long strokes, tapping and kneading.
Benefits of using hot stones include the relieving of muscle tension which is often used before deep tissue massages to ensure the client’s muscles are as relaxed as possible to achieve maximum impact. But they are also great for reducing stress and anxiety as well as helping to promote and improve the quality of sleep.
